Fedora 9 black screen?
Hello.
Ok i have been trying to install some kind of linux for a while now, i stared off trying to download ubuntu i tried 7.10 8.04 and 8.10.
I was getting a strange black screen and my PC was just unresponsive to anything so i gave up on ubuntu and thought i'd try fedora, i burned it onto the disk and tried the install but it gets to welcome to fedora press "i" to maual setup or something like that then my screen flickrs a bit and then nothing just blackness.
I have asked on ubuntu forums and was told it could be a Graphics problem and it may be fixable BUT after that people stoped resonding and i got no help.
Could someone please help me with this one.

We can help but you probably need to be a little more specific on what's happening with the system. Meanwhile, can you switch to any of the virtual terminals, CTRL/ATL/Fx, and get anything worth looking at?

Nah. I wouldn't do that but I might walk away from the computer for a while if something more interesting comes along, like, ummm..., sleep, food, a good TV show. I'll eventually have to go back to work, tomorrow. Other than that, I'll be around.

Me? You haven't tried the virtual terminal yet, have you? Where exactly does the boot process stop?

I'm not following too well. You should be able to boot off of the Fedora install DVD and press enter to install Fedora. Is your hardware anything unusual or is it just run-of-the-mill stuff? Maybe you need to have a read through the Anaconda command line options for installation. See these links.

Anaconda is the installer.

Anaconda is the installation program used by Fedora, Red Hat Enterprise Linux and some other distributions.

You can use one of more of the command line parameters to install Fedora when you're otherwise having trouble.
