Lost document in Abiword

Yesterday I managed to forget to save my document before shutting down. (I've got a nasty cold & my head is full of fugg).
I was using Abiword, and I didn't notice 'till this morning that the default setting for auto-save is "none".

So is there any way of retrieving the lost work?

That sucks, it's unlikely that you will find it, but I would look in the /tmp directory to see if abiword dumped anything there. But stuff tends not to stay there for very long.

Sorry to say it, but I don't think so. My brother once had a similar problem. In his case Abiword just crashed. We tried to retrieve the document without success. After that episode, I suggested him to use openoffice.org instead. No problems since then. I do like Abiword, but document recovery hasn't worked well for us.

Ah well. It's my own silly fault, placing too much faith in my system.
But if any of the people that compile the distributions read this, can I suggest that the default setting for a new install is to have auto-save enabled?
I was quite prepared to give Abiword a go, but this is enough to send me back to Openoffice. Other people might go back to Windows over it.
