Startup has slowed down considerably

A few days ago my boot time became significantly slower. The boot seems to proceed normally until x starts, and then it turns much slower than before, up to and including when gdm starts. gdm is very slow and unresponsive. Once I'm logged in and the desktop loads, however, the system speed seems fine.

I am not exactly sure if this started at the same time as the recent update to the x packages. My only other idea is that it might be that it's due to my switching on and off the hardware wireless switch while the system was already booted up.

I am using fedora 9 64 bit, I don't have compiz installed and am using the vesa driver (the i810 intel driver is not working for me with xorg, so I reverted to vesa). I have this problem on the most recent kernel as well as a kernel a couple of months old.

Could someone help give me an idea on how I might troubleshoot this?

Thanks

Hello:
Start your boot in interactive mode [follow the on-screen instructions] to confirm which module(s) / service(s) is/are causing the slowdown.
You can also check your /var/log/Xorg.0.log and dmesg to see if there is any clues.

The interactive setup proceeded without any problems. The slowdown seems to occur right when x starts, and proceeds through the loading of gdm and after logging and up to the time when the desktop loads. The cpu seems to be running at 100% during that time.

I have the contents of the xorg.0.log and dmesg, but I don't know how to interpret them.
I've pasted the xorg.0.log here:

and the dmesg here:

If anyone could give me some hints on how to address this issue, I'd greatly appreciate it.
