Can one stay on fedora 8, without going to fc9?

Can one stay on fedora 8 and not have to upgrade to 9?

If so, how does one stay away from the next releases. Yum is trying to down load 9 modules which I do not want at this time, may never want. And now totem is not working, no sound, and language is empty.

What are the Pros and Cons of staying on an early release please? In short how does one put Fedora into production and not have an update break it?

Thanks for your help.

Love Fedora if I can ever install the patches and not break it.
