openoffice writer

I am having a problem. Maybe it is my portable Memory stick setup.
Ok here it is. I save a file in openoffice writer as a windows office doc.
I drag it over to my memory stick folder.
it copies over.
it looks fine even has the right amout of memory written next to it. example 145kb
i remove the memory stick and put it into a windows pc.
the file shows no memory ie 0kb
i put it back into my fedora pc. it shows 0kb.

why is this happening.
The reason I ask is because well my boss has xp and i need to give him some files that I am typing up. I am not using his pc because well I have my own. I do not want to do a dual boot well because I am tired of XP that is why I installed fedora.

Can anyone help?

Stupid question, forgive me for asking, but you are unmounting the stick? If you just pull it out the file will not fully write to the stick.

Someone have another USB key you can try?

to make sure the file is written on the drive use
Code:
sync
command, after that unmount it and you'll have no problems

edit: and after you issued the sync command even if you do not unmount the drive (which is a bad idea) but unplug it you're most likely to have your file on the drive

well, this can happen if you are in the drive's directory (in terminal), then you you get something like "umount: <device>: device is busy". in this case try changing directory to something like ~ (your home directory) and issue the command once again.

Also, the easiest way to unmount a memory stick (if you have a shortcut to it on your desktop) is to close all terminals and other programs (which potentially may use files on the stick), then right-click on the desktop icon and choose "Unmount Volume"
