No video card detected when wide flat screen installed

I was running a CRT at 1280X1024. I then attached a Samsung Widescreen and could not adjust the video. It simply stretched the 1280 to fit the wider screen.

When I tried to adjust the video with KDE nothing visible happened. So I went to a terminal and entered system-config-display (after su of course)

Here I got something. It said "No video card detected."

The video card is the nVidea 8200 built into the ASUS M3N78-EMH HDMI motherboard.

I put the CRT monitor back on it, and suddenly I could set my video anywhere I wanted.

I attached a Vieosonic widescreen and got the same thing. I am back to the CRT again.

Has anyone had any similar experience ? And does anyone have a suggestion ?

Thank you very much soggyoreo. Please accept my apology. I got so involved climbing and triming trees that I forgot I had askef for help.

The solution was to install a Livna.org driver. Now I not only have the ability to see and change my resolutions, but I have 3D acceleration as well, which make things like Stelarium suddenly start working.
