Any recommended yum plugins?
I've already installed the "fastestmirror" plugin which is very handy. Do you have any suggestions for other useful plugins that I should install?
Thanks in advance.

It occasionally has repo sync issues, but presto is nice once configured. I've also got allowdowngrade, downloadonly, kernel-module, and protectbase installed. Another good one is yum-utils.

> yum-fedorakmod (makes sure kmods are updated when kernel is)
> yum-kernel-module (same thing)
> yum-plugin-kmdl (same for ATRPMS kmdls)
> yum-priorities (prioritize your repos by score; finer tuning than just "protect" or not protected")

Further to these...do any of these yum utilities work to prevent akmod from working. I am waiting for the next kernel update to check this, but I am harboring a suspicion that one of them does this???

Bob

I can't imagine why any of these, or any others either, would prevent akmod from working. The simply act to extend yum's capabilities, and should not affect the execution of applications at run-time.

If your talking about the nvidia module, I haven't been able to get that one to work in fedora9 at all.
The kmod-nvidia from livna does something that makes it work, but unless you downgrade your xorg the I haven't been able to get the module from freshrpms to function.

Agreed, but you may recall that two kernel updates ago, the kmod for my video was missing for about 4 days after the kernel update; and I am pretty sure that I had installed akmod prior to that. At that time akmod did not work, and I do reboot every morning, from a cold start. Thus the reason for my suspicions. Yet, I do hope that you are correct. If not, I imagine it will be easy to ininstall/turn off the offending plugin. Not a big deal in the long term.
Regards,
Bob
ps..It may have been Firewing1 that assisted me with that problem.

It is of course always possible that all these various softwares do not "play nicely" together. And yes, you can "turn off" any suspicious plugins at any time, either all of them by passing "--noplugins" to yum, or edit the config file(s) in /etc/yum/pluginconf.d/ and change "enabled" to "=0".
