http transfers slow down over time

I have run into a strange problem with a new Fedora Core 2 install. When I download files via http they start fast and gradually slow down to a trickle. I have confirmed it is not a mozilla only issue by downloading the same file via wget and get the same result. Starts out fast and gradually slows down. I have also verified it is an issue only with http. BitTorrent downloads of iso's download just as fast as they did on my windows box. In addition ftp is just as fast as it should be. It is a very strange phenomenon that I would like to work out. Anyone have any suggestions? I have tried googling for the issue but due to the characteristics mainly "http" every page in the world seems to come up.

The slow-down may be the result of the server, not your client, since you noted that it happens on the same site using two different clients. Do you see this issue with downloads from all sites, or just one?

Try using a diffrent client and download from a diffrent server.
What is you connection speed?

I notice the download from the command
yum install
freezes after downloading about 200 Kb. When I ctrl-c yum and redo the command I am pleased to find that it more or less picks up where it left off. But this is inconvenient. Is there another server besides the redhat one listed in yum.conf?
Or is this lockup perhaps due to some buffer on a server in between me and redhat. How could I tell?

I thought of this so I tried different files from different locations and always get the same. It is my work PC so I will work on it more Monday. Thanks for the reply. My internet connection is ruled out since we have a T-1.

The interesting thing is that a laptop that I installed at the same time does not seem to experience the issue. Anyone know of a way to diff both systems to see what might be different. I tried to keep the same software packages installed on both.

I encountered the same problem with both yum and up2date, and found this forum which contained the added insight that it is http transfers that were stalling. I edited my /etc/yum.conf file replacing the ocurances of http://download.fedora.redhat.com... with ftp://download... and now it works fine.
