Sound quits on Fedora 7

One afternoon it worked fine, did some backup work on my fathers computer and when I come back the sound is dead. I tried messing with my Soundcard Detection and Sound settings., with no success.

I know it is not a hardware issue because ran the Fedora 8 live CD and it played sounds...

Without sounds I can not play quake. To quote UserFriendly, they castrated my Quake bits!
