host unreachable

Hello. Im getting a host unreachable when I try to ping my wireless router. On fc3 it worked fine, however on fc4, which I just got, it does not. What happens. I activate wlan0 through neat, all the information being manually entered, then select my ssid from the dropdown list in NetworkManager's sweeping radar icon; the the signal meter icon replaces it. (Note: it connects when I boot, however, if I restart the network (service network restart) it doesn't. Wlan0 through the neat gui will deactivate and the sweeping radar stays a... sweeping radar. That's going ahead though, I think.) When the radar does turn into a meter, I still can't ping. Any suggestions? New linux user here, in csae you couldn't tell. Thanks.

Extra info, in case it helps: I have a bcm 4306 on an inspiron 1150. I installed the card with ndiswrapper. I have a wep key wihch I entered incorrectly. It did not connect. I entered it correctly and it did (0x1234567890).

Back. Ok, now I can not get it to connect at all. Before I got the signal meter icon, now all I get is the sweeping radar icon. Wlan0 activates through neat (internet-druid), but I can not ping anything. Selecting my essid through the NetworkManagerInfo icon deactivates the neat configuration and Im back at square one.

the router always broadcasts (if i understand you). whenever i log onto xp, i pick up my essid. networkmanager is acting very weird. just now it kept saying network out of range, but the bar next to the essid was full (98 percent maybe). i also get pid dead but program running. i managed to connect using netwrkmnger once, the instance i was describing before, but couldnt ping... any ideas ?

still screwed

tried other linux distros. no luck yet. nex try will be suse. madrake 10 came with what seemed to be an outdated version of gnome, ubuntu will not allow me to set root. i installed it, reading everything thorouhly and examining all possible choices, but root was always locked on this one cd distro. fedora so far has the cleanest set up, nicest gui. eveyrthing but the wireless internet is superior. some help, please.

Solutions:
1) Use Wired internet
2) Make sure you can connect from other computers on the router
3) Check the router settings and "Status" page. I've noticed Linux needs to have at least 1 DNS server if you have a router.
