Unhappy Help! Please!

Hello,

I've had a problem, and would appreciate any advice I can get on fixing
it.

I have a Intel celeron 633, with 192 MB of RAM and a brand spanking new
120 MB HD

After replacing the old HD with the new one (mentioned above) I
proceeded to install Fedora 4 from discs. The installation process went well,
with no error messages.

When I tried to boot up, it locked up after setting the host name. I
remembered that the NIC card in the computer had failed to work for
another linux computer of mine, so I replaced it with a spare NIC from
another linux box, and tried again. No Joy.

The messages it gave back follow:

mknod:failed to creat . dev.zero: 17
starting udev [ok]
initializing hardware storage network audio done [ok]
setting clock (localtime): mon Jul 4 09:02:01 PDT 2005
Loading default keymap (us): [ok]
setting hostname Ky: [ok]

This is where it freezes up.

Can somebody please tell me how to fix this?

Thanks,

SoCalNewbie

[update: I tried reinstalling it with just a personal desktop install without any of the extra bells and whistles I tried the first time, and I got rid of the mknod error. However, it still hung up after the hostname.]

How long did you wait before aborting. If networking is not correct it can take up to 10 minutes to get past each item related to networking.

Things that might work.
Boot up in rescue mode and edit /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0. Change onboot from yes to no.
Reinstall using the noprobe option. ' linux noprobe '
Remove all network cards for now and reinstall. Then add it after all is working.

You can try starting it without a nic first.
