The Internet has many sites that will help you network two or more computers. Go to Google and enter

How to network computers.

I personally would not wish to use seriel or parallel cables. (Hubs, network cards and ethernet cables are relativley cheap). But if you wish to, enter those parameters into your search.

If your laptops have network cards already get a hub or a switch and a pair of straight through network cables and go from there.
