LOL, okay, you installed from source I take it?

Did you remove the Apache lock file? (typically /var/run/httpd.pid)....

That would be a good starting point.

And what does /var/log/messages have to say about httpd????

1st - I did an upgrade from FC1 to FC3 ( life was good before....)

There is no pid file.
There is a new file /etc/sysconfig/httpd 100% commented out. So I not sure what goes there.

/usr/sbin/apachectl start
/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd start - both give the same results as my orig post.

Is there a web page telling how to config Apache under FC3?

(it wasn't broke - so we fixed it )

You need to run it as root.

Trt: sudo /etc/init.d/httpd start

T'is all Tux's fault

/etc/rc.d/init.d/tux running

I had all these "tux" processes running which grabbed port 80.
Where can I find a writeup on this process? Is it better or faster
than Apache?

lol, that would explain a few things!

If you want Apache to start, change it's port number that is listens on in the file "/etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf".

Or change TUX's listening port.
