Linux Equivalent Software
http://linuxshop.ru/linuxbegin/win-l...en/table.shtml has a table of equivalent software to that available in Windows. Its a very extensive list covering nearly every type of software you can think of, and should certainly help if you've recently migrated from Windows.

Tables like this are a great resource for newcomers to "realise" that there indeed is just as many quality (err better IMO!) software products as there is in the windows world. And you don't have to sell you left leg to get them either!
The more uptake on these quality open source offerings, the better it will be as more companies support them and eventually better support for various platforms and faster development...etc. It's a continual cycle in the way business works.

GIMP to me is the best example of this. Its a mind blowingly amazing program when compaed to the Adobe Photoshop series and won't cost you £300.

While we're on the topic of linux equivalences to windows, here's a short summary of the equivalences for various aspects of the Windows OS versus the Linux OS (filesystem layout, command line shell, software installation etc.)

Great, thanks for that link Bana. Can't so no to free books eh! There's some good reading there too:
ESR's Cathedral and Bazaar and The Art of Unix Programming are two interesting reads; I own them in hardcopy, but free is even better!
I've been wanting to look at LFS for a while now, might take the opportunity some day soon.
