backing up

it looks like my sound system is totaly fowled up, most of the sound related files are corrupted (a good many of them are 0b files, corrupted config files etc etc), and nothing works right sound wise, time to wipe and start over, but I DID get evolution set up just the way I like it with a lot of e-mail downloaded into it and I would rather not loose it. is there a simple way to back up evolution to another (Vfat 9 gig) HD so I can restore it back to what I have now?

You could just copy your entire ~/.evolution directory to another partition and copy it back after the install...
