3rd install - getting there!!

Just updating my system after the 3rd install of FC3.

Almost everything seems to be working fine, the only things that are causing me trouble are the screen resolution settings and some network problems (but these are my own fault!)

Any ideas on the screen res would be most helpful... I've posted that request to the Laptops forum.

The machine is an Acer 1520:-
AMD64 3000+ CPU
512MB RAM
40G HDD
nvidia GeForceFX5700 64MB

dunno, what you are really asking for from the little information you give here. but if you do not want to play games with your laptop (= do not need 3d-acceleration), you can use the standard vesa driver with most nvidia cards, running without problems on 1024x768 at 16 mio. colors. works without problems on my laptop

I'm just wondering how to get the software resolution of 1024x768 to match the actual hardware screen res of 1280x800?

I know it's not a major problem but everythings just a bit big and blocky!

Cheers...

try the following: boot into a console, run xorgconfig as root and set up ALL settings by hand. of yourse you need to know some hardware-info, like your exact graphic card, refresh-rates, monitor/lcd type, and such stuff. but it should be possible. you need to be careful though, as you could damage your hardware if you use bad parameters. in case you set up something that does not work, you can run xorgconfig again and again and again. but do not forget pen and paper for that. otherwise you will forget what you tried already.

I'll give it a go bunsen, thanks for the info, I don't like the sound of causing permanent damage to any of the hardware though!!!

I thought the nvidia driver would have given me the option, it's very nice but it only allows changes to colour depth, brightness and contrast etc. Ok, wish me luck... I'll let you know how I get on...
