Cant login with new nis server

Hi,

So we have a solairs nis server at the moment and all of the clients are working fine. Ive now brought up a new nis server from which I can bind to etc etc .. but when I try and login as a user I get persmission denied

On login (ssh) I get Permission denied, please try again.

I can login as root and then su - <username> without a problem - so Im guessing its something to do with the shadow file on the nis server ?

Thoughts ?

So,

I read somehwere that using shadow passwords with nis (under linux) is not a good idea and we should revert back to the standard pasword file and make it more secure from prying eyes - so I used pwunconv to make a standard password file and it now works - so is this a real bug and do we have a fix ?

So an update to this problem - loggin in as the user now works however I cant seem to change any passwords

[root@mordor yp]$ yppasswd <user>
Changing NIS account information for <user> on mordor.
Please enter root password:
Changing NIS password for <user> on mordor.
Please enter new password:
Please retype new password:

The NIS password has been changed on mordor.

But the password does not look to have been changed ?
