Setting up additional partitions

When setting up additional partitions,
/var/log
/var/log/audit
What size would be the minimum for a daily driver and what size would you recommend?

Re: Setting up additional partitions

Need to ask a few questions.

What is the dosk partitioning scheme - MSDOS and GUID are the common ones today.
Are you using LVM - in which case a logical device may do.

What is a "daily driver" ? No idea what you are referring to.

-----------

/var/log per se only needs on the order of 100MB, but that depends greatly on how often you choose to rotate logs and will vary greatly based on specifics.
Audit logs can be very minimalist - for example if you just log session creations or events, but can be massive if you log every signal and file change.

Re: Setting up additional partitions

Daily driver means, a general purpose does it all surfing system.

I don't spend a lot of time looking at logs, but if I were to install Nagios, Icinga, Ntop, OSSEC, snort or something similar there would be a greater increase in log generation, I assume.

Currently, I have them set for 5GB each.
