Wireless Problems

Greetings,

My wireless connection keeps dropping on Fedora after a while of using it. Usually it keeps asking for my credentials without ever working. It only works if I restart the whole system
Restarting the network service fails but I am not sure how to get information on reasons for failure

Any help is appreciated,

What wireless card/chip-set/driver are you using?

Mine has the same problems (by default), so on the off-chance it's an rt2500 or similar, I can share the fix. Otherwise I'm afraid I don't know, but others might if you post the details.

Sorry about that, the problem didn't happen in the past 3 days. Today it just happened

The AR9845 is your card on the Ultrabook. I know that there were some issues previously, but most of them seem to be gradually getting fixed with kernel updates. Have you been running yum update frequently?

It's possible that it's a NetworkManager issue, but I don't use NM, so can't be of any help with that. For what it's worth, I have the Ultrabook UX31E with the same wireless card, and lately, at least, it's been working well for me on Fedora.

indicates that kernel updates are helping folks with any wireless issues.

I'm assuming you mean AR9485. In that case, yes this is my wireless card. But I have the latest kernel on Fedora (3.4.4-5.fc17.x86_64). I will try to compile (for the first time) the new 3.5 kernel.

I heard that the NetworkManager is not the best and many people suggested switching to wicd.
But I am not sure if wicd can work with Ethernets or VPNs (OpenConnect and PPTP) which I use.

Honestly, I'm not sure how any of them work. In Fedora, I boot to text console and start without a network, because I'm not sure if I'll be somewhere where I will use wireless or wired. I've heard good things about wicd, but those were with other distributions.
