Upgrading from 32bit to 64bit

A few questions...

I installed the i686 version because I got "error 15" "file not found" when booting the 64 version. My computer is practically brand new and uses a AMD A-6 chip which uses AMD64 technology. I'm afraid that with i686 I won't be taking full advantage of my system.

My main concern with a 32bit installation is that when I program in nasm (assembly language) then I won't be able to take advantage of the 64 architechture. Am I justified in feeling that way?

If indeed it will have asm programming ramifications then how can I go about installing fendora fresh?

Re: Upgrading from 32bit to 64bit

You are correct. If you are running on a 32 bit OS, then you can't program utilizing 64 bit instructions.

The error 15 message you got pertains to the bootloader not being properly installed. There was probably nothing wrong with the actual Fedora installation if you had re-installed the bootloader.

Now since you have the 32 bit version installed, you will have to pretty much wipe it out and install the 64 bit version fresh. There isn't a way to upgrade.

Best way is to get the full DVD install media of the 64 bit version and install from there. You get many more options than you do installing from the LiveCD media.
