Which types of 8.5 GB DVDs do you recommend?

I've been using CDs and 4.5 GB DVDs to record large format camera images, but now I find I need to use larger size DVDs for that purpose.

I had a few Office Depot DVD+R DL DVDs which record at 2.4 X, but I now need to order faster recording ones.

My computer and DVD drive are relatively new having been purchased in the last wo years.

What considerations should I consider in choosing these DVDs with respect to speed, quality, etc?

Any recommended brands?

I've been buying DVDs from retail stores such as Office Depot or Microcenter. Is there any potential problem in having such media shipped from Aamazon or another Internet provider?

I store my image directories on a large external USB drive, but I need the DVDs for "permanent" backup.

In principle, I would like my children, grandchildren, and descendants doown the line to have these images.

Have you tried usb flash drives They have more storage capcity and I would guess as backup media they might be better. As for myself that is what I do.

I have a terabyte external usb drive for primary storage. That seems to me to be a better choice than multiple flash drives.

For secondary long term storage, DVDs are much cheaper than flash drives.

Keep in mind that my files are very large. For example, a scan of a 4 x 5 inch negative at 3200 ppi at 16 bits per channel can be over 1 Gb in size. Not all my files are that large, but some are.
