Help with uninstalling Eclipse

Hello,

I'm in need of some help uninstalling Eclipse. I can't seem to find away to remove it.

I've tried yum remove eclipse, but it seems that wont work since I didn't install it that way.

Originally I installed eclipse following this guide here, and at first it was fine. But I think I have done something stupid and now it wont run, so I figure the best thing is to uninstall it and start again.

Any help will be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Re: Help with uninstalling Eclipse

So what exactly is the error message that you get when you try to run /usr/bin/eclipse?

Re: Help with uninstalling Eclipse

The beginning splash screen starts fine eg this, only with indigo, but when the actual program starts it opens a little grey box with eclipse written across the top and nothing more. No actual error message. Just not a working Eclipse environment.

This is a screenshot of my issue here

Re: Help with uninstalling Eclipse

When I used the zend pdt all-in-one eclipse, uninstalling was nothing more than deleting the directory I'd put it in.

Re: Help with uninstalling Eclipse

This should do it:

Quote:
su -
<root password>
rm /usr/bin/eclipse
rm /usr/share/applications/eclipse.desktop
rm -fr /opt/eclipse

Re: Help with uninstalling Eclipse

Hi,

Thanks for the replies. Doing:

Quote:
su -
<root password>
rm /usr/bin/eclipse
rm /usr/share/applications/eclipse.desktop
rm -fr /opt/eclipse
Does remove everything and I'm unable to open eclipse as it has been removed. However when I try to re-install it I'm still left with the same problem. It still doesn't start the way it should.

Is there something further I'm supposed to do?

Re: Help with uninstalling Eclipse

How are you installing eclipse? And what do you mean by 'doesn't start the way it should'?

Re: Help with uninstalling Eclipse

I followed these installation instructions here.

And this is a screenshot of what happens when I run eclipse here. Notice the little grey box in the middle of my screen with Eclipse written across the top. This is all I get when I run it.

I'm not sure what is causing this and hoped an uninstall would remove this problem so I could do a fresh install.

Re: Help with uninstalling Eclipse

Now that you've used my method from post #5 to remove your manually installed Eclipse, you could just install the official Eclipse packages and avoid possible problems with that manual (hack) way. Using yum with the official package group is more reliable:
Quote:
yum install @"Fedora Eclipse"
or
yum groupinstall "Fedora Eclipse"

(both work)
The other option that works well (actually I've had better luck with this one), is to install the springsource.com SpringSource Tool Suite:

http://www.springsource.com/developer/sts

(use the Download SpringSouce Tool Suite now link near the bottom of that page)

That has the advantage that the Java Spring support is already rolled in
