no text consoles with nVidia drivers

I have just installed F16 x86_64 on an i7 with GeForce 540. The display worked fine with nouveau. I installed the nvidia driver from rpmfusion. The graphics display works fine, but when I try to get a text console (Ctl-Alt-F?) I just get a (large) flashing cursor at the bottom of the screen. I tried installing the driver using the nvidia installer, but the behavior is similar, with a (small) flashing cursor at the top of the screen. Latest rpm distribution kernel, etc. Has anyone else seen this?

Re: no text consoles with nVidia drivers

OK, I have a fix. You have to turn the Kernel Mode Setting completely off by adding a "nomodeset" to the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX string in /etc/default/grub and then run:
grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg (or you can test it first by just adding nomodeset to the kernel parameters by hand on boot).
