FC3 Dell laptop keyboard problem - login prompt

Just finished installing FC3 onto my friend's Dell 5160 laptop. Everything went well, no problems at all until we tried to reboot.

We set the system to start up in runlevel 3 but whenever we get to the login prompt, the system doesn't accept any input from the keyboard. We can't even switch the caps-lock or numlock on or off.

The system doesn't appear to be frozen completely, because the cursor keeps flashing on the screen.

This has happened on two fresh installs of FC3 now, but not under XP (which works fine).

Apparently, double tapping shift will normally reset the keyboard driver but this doesn't work for us.

Edit: Forgot to add, occasionally it will boot up fine, and we can use the system with no problems.

Yeah it is really wierd - happens most often in run level 3 apparently every other boot in runlevel 5.

It doesn't happen on my own D600 either.

Perhaps there is some problem with my mate's laptop that only shows up in Linux. Going to give Suse a go I think, see if problem is the same.

on my hp ze4145 I had a similar problem. disabling the usb legacy support on the bios fixed the issue.
also there might be an update for the bios of your laptop which may resolve the problem too, did you guys check it?
