Hi. We have some Chase Research IOLan 8+ terminal servers which we have been using for years. They have been reliable.....until now. These devices are supposed to do a login over a local network when they are powered on. sometimes they do, and sometimes they don't. Repeated reboots of the server usually fix the issue.
What has changed? Newer faster server for one. for 2 the OS. We've used these with a couple of flavors of Unix. We used them with Fedora 6 and there were no issues. Last summer we upgraded to F15. They use (dirty word coming) telnet for the login. BEFORE I get a lecture on the lack of security, this is the way these devices were designed, I do not have a choice in how they operate. AND they are on a local, internal network with only half a dozen trusted people using dumb terminals. Same version of telnet now as we used on F6.
Has anything else changed? Any ideas of where to start looking or should we just jump in and replace the Iolans?
