[Solved] After kernel update, no GUI, can not startx...

So after the wonderful newl kernel update, I'm unable to start the x server, my Nvidia driver is pretty much nonexistent, (http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux-d...10-driver.html).

I'm able to boot on an older kernel without issues, though.

Missed the kernel update on the list. And well, the update broke it (as I feared after I saw the dreaded kernel update)

Would like to know how to fix this (here's a nice picture -> https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...22541361_n.jpg )

I'm assuming I should have went with akmod instead of the Nvidia website itself..

Thanks in advance,

- pimentel28

Re: After kernel update, no GUI, can not startx...

If you're using the closed nvidia driver, you must either use the akmods and akmod-nvidia packages (which will either get the matching video kernel modules for the new kernel or if it can't find any, will recompile the old driver against the new kernel's headers and install the rebuilt module) or you'll need to update the kmod-nvidia (that should happen automatically but sometimes the kmod-nvidia lags the new kernel a bit).

see:

What you probably would want is the akmod method, that way even if the nvidia update is missing Fedora will just make a temporary rebuilt one to hold you over until the update comes in

Thanks! I should have gone with the akmod method in the beginning!

Though I found the instructions here a bit easier to follow; http://www.if-not-true-then-false.co...ouveau-driver/
