Unhappy Amarok not starting in Fedora 16 KDE Spin

Hi guys,

I installed Fedora 16 KDE Spin today. When, I tried to start Amarok, it doesn't start. But, I find processes with the name 'amarok' in the system monitor.

This is the output of 'amarok' when run in terminal:
==========================================
QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
Amarok is already running!
QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.

When I kill the existing amarok processes, and try to re-run amarok in terminal, this is the output:
================================================== ==========================
QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
KGlobal::locale::Warning your global KLocale is being recreated with a valid main component instead of a fake component, this usually means you tried to call i18n related functions before your main component was created. You should not do that since it most likely will not work
QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
*** glibc detected *** /usr/libexec/gstreamer-0.10/gst-plugin-scanner: malloc(): memory corruption: 0x09886d10 ***

I tried to rename the files in ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok and ~/.kde/share/config/amarok*, but no luck.

Also, pidgin is not starting on Fedora 16. Has anybody faced the same problem with new Fedora 16? If so, could you solve it?

Thanks,
Prashant.

Post Re: Amarok not starting in Fedora 16 KDE Spin

I'm seeing the same problem on Fedora16 KDE Spin (x86_64) though the error messages are somewhat different:
Quote:
QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
KGlobal::locale::Warning your global KLocale is being recreated with a valid main component instead of a fake component, this usually means you tried to call i18n related functions before your main component was created. You should not do that since it most likely will not work
*** glibc detected *** /usr/bin/amarok: malloc(): memory corruption: 0x0000000000fc23e0 ***
The original post indicated that the memory corruption was in the gstreamer plugin scanner, while in my case it is amarok itself.

Before diving down into the code, anyone have any suggestions? The most obvious thing would be the QDbusConnection warnings, but this may be a red herring since I'm seeing a lot of these type of messages from other applications that seem to otherwise be working fine.

Thanks
-Steve

Either of you happen to be using nvidia binary driver? If so, others are reporting some serious issues very similar to this

Re: Amarok not starting in Fedora 16 KDE Spin

Thanks for the heads-up! As it happens, I'm not currently using the proprietary nvidia driver; I'm using the "nouveau" card driver that Fedora16 selects by default for the nVidia Quadro FX1800M chipset in my laptop (Dell Precision M4500).

While this seems somewhat far afield of a problem with running amarok, I guess I had better dig up the threads on the nVidia problem you mentioned. I have had several Frozen-Laptop events this evening at home after a very reliable 1st day at the office with Fedora16.. Since the problem seems to have disappeared when I switched back to wired Ethernet at home (which is what I was using in the office today), I have some suspicion that this stability problem may be related to the wireless card (Intel "Centrino Ultimate-N 6300" and associated "iwlagn" driver).

Regards,

-Steve
