ATI Proprietary Driver with Gnome 3 Shell and OpenCL

Hi, Gurus!

I'm going to play w/ OpenCL on Fedora 15. I instaled their (AMD) SDK, and need to install their ICD driver. But I heard, that there are problems w/ AMD proprietary video driver with Gnome 3 shell.

Does anyone have an experience with this configuration?

My machine has Phenom II and ATI 4750 video.

Thank you.

Re: ATI Proprietary Driver with Gnome 3 Shell and OpenCL

hello,

I read somewhere that the upcoming version 11.09 of Catalyst should fix the gnome shell issues. But it's hard to find the source again.

If you use 11.08 or older you can still use the fallback mode of Gnome 3. Either follow this guide or install the driver from the AMD package, then you should also have kernel-devel and kernel-headers installed.

Re: ATI Proprietary Driver with Gnome 3 Shell and OpenCL

Thanks for info.

At AMD site I see version 11.8 dated 8/17/2011. At rpmfusion - version 11.7.

I like the Gnome 3 shell and do not want to destroy it. So I believe I will wait a few days, before AMD will post 11.9 on its site.
So, by the way, are there plans to support OpenCL in open ATI driver?
