How to shutdown etc.. etc..

Just installed/tried the latest F15, i must be pretty dumb here but..........

How do you shutdown ? using terminal at mo
How can you have more than one instance of a terminal/app etc.. (solved)
Are applets of no use now...
Can you have desktop icons etc.. now
The list goes on and on

The list is indeed lengthy. Shut down by clicking on your user name, top right of the screen. You'll see only suspend at the bottom of said menu. While said menu is displayed press the ALT key. Suspend changes to Power Off. Click it. You'll see Cancel / Restart / Power Off

Agree - if I want to suspend my laptop, I just close the lid. I would never use the "suspend" option from the menu, as it takes more clicks / time to achieve the very basic task. But Gnome's devs know better, hence by default you see "Suspend" rather than "Power off" option.

I think that as well. the power off/restart should be the default instead of suspend in my opinion as well.

I very rarely use suspend, even on laptop systems, and never on desktop systems. (But if you use a phone or tablet like it looks as if the new gnome3 shell was written for, then possibly you may use suspend more, I don't know. Don't use a tablet, don't want a tablet. )

I had this notion that fedora devs were really involved in GNOME project. Can't we as fedora community communicate with gnome devs to have some sane defaults in gnome 3 ?

Looks like I'm the odd one out. Exactly because the developers placed Suspend as easier to get to than Power Off I figured I would give it a test ride for awhile. Seems to pretty well shut everything down. When its time to reboot the boot up goes far faster - a little aspect I happen to like over the full Power Off selection. Because of that I actually kind of like the Suspend feature.

I agree, suspend works for my desktops so very well, no need for long boot-ups any more:
push the power button on and I am up and running right where I suspended it.

I preferred gnome shell etc.. more in the earlier days, seems as time goes on the less control you have, i see this being the beginning and end of gnome3 at least for me, still trying to work simple stuff out, it should not be this difficult to use

you should logout,then on top right you can see the power menu
