Boot stuck at Splash - Kernel Video Driver
Hi
Looking for an option to get Fedora working again, I followed Leighs guide to install the kernel nvidia driver. On Reboot however I am stuck a the Fedora splash.
Is there a way when booting to disable splash, or enter in safe mode?
I have an nvidia geforce 9 card and I used the non-PAE install.
What are the best options?

Re: Boot stuck at Splash - Kernel Video Driver
Use the grub menu and specify initmode 3. This will at least get a console terminal up so you can edit configuration files.

Re: Boot stuck at Splash - Kernel Video Driver
You might also try removing the "rhgb" option from the kernel options. This disables the glowing 'f' screen during booting (you would see a lot of messages like "Starting sshd [OK]" instead).
To do this as a one-off by: switch on, and wait for the "Booting Fedora in 5 seconds..." message, then press a key to get the boot menu; press 'a' and edit the long line that appears by removing the "rhgb" (should be near the end somewhere); press Return to boot.
If you have managed to boot successfully, you can make this change permanent by editing the file /etc/grub.conf to remove the "rhgb" from the line starting "kernel".

Re: Boot stuck at Splash - Kernel Video Driver
Disabled rhgb but now i can see that Noveua is the problem.
I saw something about updating Noveua in grub if it doesn't work, will have to have a look.
When I want to use initmode 3, I press a to edit the startup but do I just type "3" or "initmode 3" at the end of the kernel boot line?

Re: Boot stuck at Splash - Kernel Video Driver
A simple 3 should do it. That is
kernel <blah blah> 3

Re: Boot stuck at Splash - Kernel Video Driver
So what I have done is.
When fedora boot I press enter and then "e" to edit and then e again, I typed "3" after the kernel command and pressed 'b" to boot.
It went to a black screen with a flashing cursor in the top left of screen and thats where it stayed nothing else happened I was unable to type it was stuck.
So I did the same as avoe but typed "init 3" and pressed b to boot. I was again stuck at the flashing cursor.
Little help what will get me up and running again?

Re: Boot stuck at Splash - Kernel Video Driver
Ah, I vaguely remember something like this. Also, in the edit to the kernel line, did anyone say add nomodeset? (I think this is what enabled me to boot, but I'm not guaranteeing that.)
That is, when you edit the kernel line, if it's not there add
nomodeset 3
No guarantee on this, I'm going from rather vague memory.
