Fedora 14 - slow startup
Hello everyone,
I am experiencing a very slow start-up with fedora 14. I installed the nVidia drivers for my graphic card and updated the kernel via "Software update". It takes about 3-4minutes to go from the fedora start-up screen to the login menu.
The boot message displays a lot of erros but I am not sure what the problem is, so I ask if anoyne could help.
Here is my configuration:
Processor: Phenom II X6 1090T
Motherboard: GA-870-UD3
Graphic card: nVidia GTX 260
And the boot message:
(it was too large to c/p)
Boot Msg
Here is a snippet of the first few lines of the boot msg:
Code:

Where did your original post go? All I see is this reply which has no information about what's wrong in it.

Re: Fedora 14 - slow startup
What do you mean? Does it take more that 20 seconds or so? Got any hardware issues? BIOS clock set right? Tell us about it, and we will help you.

It takes about 3-4 minutes to startup to a login screen. The boot messages are attached in the previous post. I'm not sure how to check BIOS clock?

It was sent to moderation. Probably for that link in the first post.
P.S.: That text file was only 22 KB. When the character count prevents pasting such a thing, you can attach it as a .txt file. In the "Post New Thread" box, see "Additional Options" and "Attach Files". When replying to a post, click "Go Advanced" and see "Additional Options" and "Attach Files".

Re: Fedora 14 - slow startup
i have a similar issue this morning - bootup took forever and its not to do with gfx updates as computer was fine last night (booting up etc) - did vlc updates but nothing more sinister.
I get "failed to start udev" in boot messages. I've had a similar issue before and added something to the grub - i'll have to find that and attach here?!
ETA: udev failure in f13 - not sure its the same issue but i'm taking it as worth a try!
ETA: bootup time is prompt now! - added "enforcing=0" to the kernel line in grub

Re: Fedora 14 - slow startup
Hi,
I have a similar problem. I searched the internet a lot and found several reports about bugs in udevadm - but they should be fixed.
My problem:
udevadm settle - timeout of 180 seconds reached, the event queue contains:
/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1e.0/0000:04:01.2/video4linux/video1 (1744)
[FAILED]
After this message the system starts normal. But: if I start tvtime for using my Hauppauge Win-TV HVR1300 with analog signal, the program window opens (in kde, Fedora 14) with a black window. I am not able to close it. If I start vlc and try to see the tv-stream by open capture device video for linux, the vlc also do not react anymore. Sending the system down than only work with root permissions and there is a problem with unmounting the /home partition.
I had problems with the tv card before in F12. There are discussions about the correct starting order of modules, the firmware of the card, etc.. I have no idea anymore.
Perhaps there could be a problem between my tv card and my sound card, or the nvidia graphics card:
sound card: SoundBlaster-XFi
tv-card: Hauppauge WinTV-HVR1300 DVB-T/Hybrid
video card: nvidia gtx 260
After installing F14 yersterday from the Live-CD, I had a signal with tvtime and vlc until first restart.
Than nothing anymore.
Before trying I updated the system using yum, installing software, using standard repositories and the rpm-fusion ones. Also updated nvidia card drivers, as recommended. Than I tried tv signal, it warks, restart, do not see anything anymore.
More insteresting stuff: I do not get the timeout at any startup, but normally. But tvtime and vlc always behave as described above.
I would be happy about any good idea and help for finding a solution. Yesterday in the evening I thought about switching back to windows -
Greetings and thanks for thinking,
Andreas

Re: Fedora 14 - slow startup
Same slow startup here after an upgrade from F13 to F14 with preupgrade (x86).
Tv-card is HVR-1300 and problem is video4linux.
After a second try with a stepweise upgrade via yum (F14-testing) and the last Kernel of F13 everything works fine.
So it seems to be a kernel problem for me, you could try 2.6.34.8-68.fc13 with F14.
Completing i had
to get gedit working as root: export $(dbus-launch)
to get scanner working: change ATTRS{class} to ATTR{class} in /etc/udev/rules.d/92-video-post.rules.
