Gnome startup error FC 2

I have been using Fedora Core 2 for a while now, and everytime I try to start gnome, I get an error that says something to the effect "Could not lookup internet address for linux.. This will prevent gnome from operating correctly. It may be possible to correct the problem by adding linux. to the file /etc/hosts." Then you can cancel or log in anyway.

Anybody know what this error entails?

well, (s)he might've used system-config-network to set a hostname... if so, he probably has a hostname set but that thing has trouble with /etc/hosts

if that is the case, you need to open /etc/hosts as root, and find this line

127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost

and you need to change the last "localhost" to whatever hostname you're trying to use (that'll 'alias' your localhost to your hostname)
