Understanding and using persistent storage (F13 LiveUSB beta)

Hi all,

I've downloaded and started to play with the F13 liveUSB beta and I'm looking forward to upgrading from my F12.

Before then I am looking to understand more about the persistant storage available on my USB stick and how I can put my home folder on to the stick so my apps and settings are all there ready to install to the HDD at my leisure.

What I don't understand at the moment is how my LiveUSB of F13 is set up. Before now (albeit without persistant storage) my LiveUSB appears as a single mounted drive just like my HDD. Everything else seemed buried in there somewhere. With my F13 LiveUSB I have a whole load of partitions and so can't figure out how to activate the right part as persistent and am a little cautious of screwing something up.

Could anyone please advise on how to activate persistant storage?

I have tried this (from the Fedora Wiki - http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora...ta_Persistence)

Code:
livecd-iso-to-disk --overlay-size-mb 2047 /media/4C84-C304/F13-Beta-i686-Live/F13-Beta-i686-Live.iso /dev/sdb1
Although I think because there are so many parts to the USB stick now (partitions/LVM/swap - I'm not sure) it isn't picking up the right part as the storage...

Here's the output when I type
Code:
df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/mapper/live-rw 3.0G 2.6G 374M 88% /
tmpfs 745M 576K 744M 1% /dev/shm
/dev/sdb1 7.5G 930M 6.6G 13% /mnt/live
varcacheyum 745M 167M 578M 23% /var/cache/yum
/tmp 745M 24K 745M 1% /tmp
vartmp 745M 0 745M 0% /var/tmp
/dev/mmcblk0p1 1.9G 1.2G 799M 59% /media/4C84-C304
/dev/loop0 128K 128K 0 100% /media/disk

Any/all help appreciated!!
Thanks in advance

To make this easy, you may just want to use gparted to reformat your Usb Stick to fat32. Then use the gui version of Live USB creator (works for MS Windows or Fedora) to copy your Fedora iso to the usb stick. Set the persistent option to 2048 or less. Works for me every time.

Good luck.

I'm not sure if the livecd-iso-to-disk script supports this feature yet. Any persistent changes you make while in the live usb mode will NOT be carried over to a HDD install.

I have however seen this done with other distros like PCLinuxOS, sidux (based on debian sid) and Antix. I think I did this while I was testing a Scientific Linux (based on RedHat) usb stick too.
