Desktop Search

As a Project Manager, the key tool I need the most is a good desktop search tool integrated with my e-mail. The best tool I can find so far is recoll. Why is this not part of the Fedora suite?

The biggest problem with all the linux desktop search tool is that none of them integrate with Lotus Notes which is the e-mail I have at work. Does anybody know how or when we will get lotus notes integration with linux desktop search?

If you would have looked at their download page, you would have seen that they provide rpm's for F12. So whats the problem? Do you really think that Fedora is able to provide every possible package in Linuxland?

I have the recoll packages installed from their site. The point I was making was that it appears to be best of breed package. As someone who has to collate a lot of information, e-mail in particular, that type of tool is a necessity. The lack of a good desktop search integrated with lotus notes is a serious impediment to taking linux up in my workplace. I would think that Fedora would have an interest in a useful best of breed package that encourages users to move to Linux.

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback but note that packages in Fedora are maintained by volunteered. So the best way to get something into Fedora is to do it yourself.

Have you checked out Lotus on Red Hat?

Red Hat Enterprise Linux isn't free, and I don't know the extent to which Lotus Notes is integrated, but it might be worth looking into. There might also be possibilities in CentOS, which is a debranded Red Hat without the support.

Edit: What about Google Desktop - apparently it will index anything, including Lotus Notes.

I recently discovered Tracker, and I've been using that for indexing my stuff and it's working pretty well.

However, I'm not sure how it interfaces with Notes, I looked at the features and it didn't show specific packages.
