Can't boot from USB

For some reason I can't boot a LiveUSB with Fedora 12 KDE. I used the LiveUSB creator for Windows, and can't boot from the USB I made. I'm trying to boot on a Dell Dimension 5100.

Re: Can't boot from USB

If you are having problem with a PC that doesn't support boot from USB I would recommend PLoP Bootmanager.

It can be burned to CD or floppy, and starts a menu that allows you to select the boot partition you want.

I keep a copy with me when I fix friends PCs, it saves messing around with their bios when I want to use fedora to check hardware, network or access windows files. I keep a copy of AVG on my live USB to scan windows systems.

Re: Can't boot from USB

When I enter the boot options and select Boot from USB, It just says "Device Not Available: Press F1 to try again, Press F2 to enter Setup"

Re: Can't boot from USB

maybe your drive needs external power , or is not plugged into the correct usb port on the motherboard before it shows up in the mainboard's bios? Are you certain your drive is plugged in properly to the usb port?

try trigpoints suggestion.. not a bad idea to load the bootloader from cd and then pick the usb to boot

Re: Can't boot from USB

In my experience, sometimes the bios will detect the Fedora USB as an additional hard disc, and only have the capability to boot from one. You can configure the bios to treat the USB as the primary disc, but you then need to reconfigure it to allow the hard disc to boot again. Far safer, especially if its someone else's, to use a boot CD.
