Many deprecated modprobe warnings followed by boot has failed

So, this started to happen recently after a reboot due to updates. The screen displays many, meaning more than 12 of:

WARNING: Deprecated config file /etc/modprobe.conf, all config files belong into /etc/modprobe.d/

which is then followed by:

Boot has failed, sleeping forever.

I deleted /etc/modprobe.conf, so that is not the problem. The normal boot process will display the modprobe warning twice and all is well. If the warning is displayed more than twice, the boot will fail and I have to try again.

Any suggestions? I haven't found any useful information yet in the logs.

This problem seems to have been solved by the new kernel update - 2.6.32.9-67.fc12.x86_64

Probably generated by using system-config-network to change network settings:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=589593

You can run "rpm -qf /etc/modprobe.conf" to verify that the file is not owned by any package, then delete it.
