F12 Quasar8000 kernel and eee-control

on eeePC 1000HE, installed F12 Live via USB, then installed Version 2.6.32.2-1.eeepc.fc12 and followed instructions via http://www.fedora-eee.com/index.php?p=1_14

then, installed New eee-control version (eee-control-0.9.4-1.fc12) via yum localinstall but I have the following issues:

(1) in top panel, see Eee, however error communicating with eee-control-daemon. make sure it is running

(2) running /etc/init.d/eee-control-daemon produces Cannot access ACPI control files!
Make sure the modules eeepc_acpi (or eeepc_laptop) are loaded.

(3) lsmod only produces

I am going to try the Nov 26th 2.6.31.6-150.eeepc.fc12 or the Dec 30 Version 2.6.31.9-174.eeepc.fc12 and see if I get the same result.

Did you try "/sbin/modprobe eeepc_laptop" as root?

I'm currently working on a new kernel which should address this issue. It should be uploaded within the next couple of days. Please test it and let me know if it fixes the issues you've been having.

OK, I'll wait. But please tell me, is it OK to update all with yum? I can omit anything related to kernel...

Updating with yum is OK. If you want to make sure the kernel doesn't get updated by mistake, open /etc/yum.conf with gedit as root and add the following line at the end:

Code:
exclude=kernel*

This is strange. I specifically compiled eeepc_laptop as a module in this kernel. Can you try "/sbin/modprobe eeepc_laptop" and let me know the output?

This is very strange because it seems your netbook is not being recognized as an Eee PC altogether. Did you check lsmod while using the stock F12 kernel? It has eeepc_laptop compiled as a module so if it doesn't load there either then there's a chance you have some hardware (or maybe BIOS) issue.

SOLUTION FOUND !

from this website http://forum.eeepc.it/viewtopic.php?pid=96784

it appears that with new BIOS (1104), eeePC 1000HE requires some changes to the eee-control-daemon text file.

My language is English, but I will try to explain.

around line 85-86, you need to change
elif os.path.exists("/sys/class/backlight/eeepc/brightness"):
brn_path = "/sys/class/backlight/eeepc/brightness"
to this
elif os.path.exists("/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness"):
brn_path = "/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness"

Save it, and then eee-control works.

Perhaps you can place this info on your website under HOWTO ?

Re: F12 Quasar8000 kernel and eee-control

Sorry for waking up this thread .
I have all the same symptoms with my Asus 1000HA , except its is working well with stock kernel. And lsmod shows no eeepc_laptop in latest kernel.
How do I add it into latest kernel?

Unfortunately no. I am not using Quasar kernel, and I have been searching for it with no luck.

It is stock kernel I have been trying for, and latest kernels (both normal and PAE).
