Fedora 12 freezes
Hello!
I've installed Fedora 12 on my old box (motherboard Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3).
Everything worked perfect. Then I've upgraded my box with new motherboard - Gigabyte GA-EP43T-UD3L.
After this upgrade my box started freezing after some time (any input doesn't work, network services do not respond) only system reset helps until the next freeze.
I don't have problems in windows xp - 3 days of uptime and everything is ok.
How I can fix that in Fedora 12?
Is there any way to make it work?
Is there a way to see why it freezes?

I have the same problem with a "MSI K9AG Neo2-Digital". Mine appears to be mouse related. Hangs hard. It is running FC12 32bit, though system is a dual AMD64.
The kernel is "2.6.31.6-145.fc12.i686.PAE".
4gig of memory.
Video card is-> nVidia Corporation GeForce 8600 GT (the driver for this is nouveau).

Same problem here, Fedora 12 , kernel-2.6.31.6-166.fc12.x86_64, ATI Radeon - 9550, Gnome. Xorg sometimes uses about 80% of CPU. I'm not entirely sure but I think that Firefox was always running. Ndiswrapper or Flash?

Did you try to disable kernel mode setting? It seems as if this causes problems on certain configurations:

Problems when using KDE with the proprietary NVIDIA graphics driver, some Radeon dual-head configurations, or nouveau with KMS disabled
link to this item - Bugzilla: #533620 and X.org bug #25136
We encourage Fedora users to use the free nouveau driver, rather than the proprietary nvidia driver, whenever possible.
A patch added to Fedora 12's X.org server package to fix another bug results in severe performance regressions in certain configurations when using KDE. Known affected configurations include any use of the NVIDIA proprietary driver, some configurations using the nouveau NVIDIA driver with kernel mode setting disabled, and some configurations using the radeon driver with dual monitors. The cause of this issue was identified by NVIDIA developers.
A test build that should resolve this problem is available from Koji: xorg-x11-server-1.7.1-12.fc12. If you are affected by this issue, please test this update and report your results to the bug report.

My board has onboard ATI graphics, which I don't use, and I have an Nvidia GeForce PCI 128mb card. I get good picture resolution by default, my res is 1856x1392, with a refresh rate of 71.7Hz on a Cornerstone CRT monitor. Every time I have un-installed the nouveau driver and install the Nvidia driver, I lost everything. When I use the ATI, the best res I can get is 1024x768.

I guess it's kernel and/or specific. Freezed on running x11vnc and in 3rd runlevel.

Does not work for me!!
Does not work for me!!
I have tried anything as described in: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Common...intel-misc-gfx with no luck.
I am about to throw Fedora away after using it it for 2 yeas with a very great disappointment!
This issue is very frustrating and is a huge waste of time!!
Could anyone assist me with a better idea than install Ubuntu or Centos over Fedora?
Thanks!!
Shay

I would not think you could change to a new motherboard ( different model ) without a new install
Try # /usr/sbin/lshw and see if it shows new or old motherboard

Well it used to work 4 years ago - I changed motherboard and everything worked fine.
I've made a clean install by the way for FC12.

same problem here with my P5Q mobo and 8500GT, was running fine on fedora 10..
Tried the nouveau, tried kmod-nvidia as per the instructions on here, tried the xorgs in updates-testing/rawhide, tried kernels from updates-testing and/or rawhide, no luck, went to Fedora 11 and back to running fine again was never able to find out what was causing it, as its my primary home file server/UPNP media streamer i couldnt mess with it beyond the weekend, i just wanted it back up and running come the end of the weekend , hopefully whatever it was gets resolved down the road.

Same problem with 8800GT and P965 neo mobo. With fedora 12 64 bit version the system freezing randomly (sometimes I had to reboot several times to get it work, sometimes it worked several hours without problems) now back to 11 and no problems. I tried kmods and drivers directly from nvidia but the result was always the same. I've noticed sometimes in the Xorg.log file that the server stuck in an infinite loop but most of the times there were no errors in the log file.
