ATI Drivers driving me mad

i know there's loads of posts on this but i still can't fix the problem. i have tried many of the different things i've come across with no success (i even lost all display at some points). As of about 20seconds before this post i followed the exact steps to make my Radeon 9200 work from http://www.linuxfaq.org

the problem is i cant get into the display properties to change the resolution from how it is now, i think its about 800x600, despite the fact i set it to be 1152x864 when running fglrxconfig.
If i try system-config-display from the terminal i get the following error:

Trying with card: ATI Radeon 9200
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/share/system-config-display/xconf.py", line 415, in ?
dialog = xConfigDialog.XConfigDialog(hardware_state, xconfig, rhpl.videocard.VideoCardInfo())
File "/usr/share/system-config-display/xConfigDialog.py", line 511, in __init__
self.xml.get_widget("secondMonitorLabel").set_text (monitor_list[1].modelname)
TypeError: GtkLabel.set_text() argument 1 must be string, not None

any ideas at all?!?!

Tom

I can't seem to view that tutorial, but it could be that you need to rename the XF86Config-4 file the fglrxconfig setup produces to xorg.conf since FC2 uses X.org rather than XFree86.

I followed the tutorial at fedorafaq.com and got my drivers working well first time (Almost ).

Once you think you have it working properly run fglrxinfo from terminal and see if the card comes up as "ATI Radeon 9200"

oh yeh, i meant www.fedorafaq.org and followed it exactly. output of fglrxinfo:

display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: RADEON 9200 DDR Generic
OpenGL version string: 1.3.4641 (X4.3.0-3.14.1)

display: :0.0 screen: 1
OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: www.mesa3d.org
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
OpenGL version string: 1.2 (1.4 Mesa 5.0.2)

this seems right but i just cant get into display properties to change resolution and the tv still isnt working properly, although progress on that front has been made with that tutorial as i can now move my mouse onto it but its just a crazy scrambled mess n the mouse is displayed on it as a big white box!

i've tried that site with no success. even removed fglrx and followed fedorafaq.org again but still the same problem: no display properties to change the resolution or make the tv work properly, if i try running it from the terminal i get that error message displayed in the first post.

I'm about to see if I can get my radeon 9000 to work in fc3t2 since I had to make a custom kernel so I could actually view my ntfs drives. It might be a good idea to try making a custom kernel and then go ahead and do the patching. Don't know if it will work et though, I'll keep you posted.

No dice people it seems that it wants me to load a rage3d module before loading the fglrx module
