Virtualization - am I creating a kvm guest or qemu

I just install fedora 11 and all the Virtualization rpms and updated everyting to the current version.

When i go through the process of creating a centos 5.3 guest the virtual machine manager gui i am asked under advanced options what Virt Type i want to use but I only see qemu. Is that the same as KVM in this version of fedora? Or do I need to do something to create KVM guest with the manager gui?

I use VirtualBox, but I guess you should have installed *qemu-kvm* package and load kvm module for your CPU. Also, check services with "chkconfig --list" if there is something related to qemu/kvm.

I have qemu-kvm installed... that is way i was unsure if when i did a qemu install if i was really getting latest and greatest kvm. because i do have qemu-kvm does that mean i have a kvm guest?

I want to use a guest as a web server so i didn't go virtualbox.

As I already wrote, just load proper kvm module (kvm-intel or kvm-amd) and start necessary services (if there are any).

If your CPU is not VM enabled, you won't be able to use full kvm-qemu. Do you know if it's enabled.

egrep 'vmx|svm' /proc/cpuinfo

If you just get back a command prompt, it means you don't have a VM enabled CPU.

yes! that was the issue.. Dell did not enable virtualization on my computer from the factory. Had to enable it in the bios. Now when i go to create vm it says kvm/qemu.

Thanks!

Ah, I should have mentioned that too--I keep forgetting that it's often (usually?) enabled or disabled in the BIOS, assuming that the CPU is capable. Glad you got it fixed.
