Cannot update to kernel 2.6.29.6-217.2.3.fc11 (x86-64)

I attempted to install the new kernel 2.6.29.6-217.2.3.fc11 (x86-64)
A depsolv message appears:

YUM told me that kmod-wl-2.6.29.4-167.fc11.x86_64 would be removed for dependencies.
yum info kmod-wl doesn't mention an installed fc10 version of kmod-wl, so the phrase
"(installed) kmod-wl-2.6.27.24-170.2.68.fc10.x86_64-5.10.79.10-2.fc10.4.x86_64" seems
erroneous.

my yum.baseurl.org bug was rejected by skvidal with the comment

- "take this up with the packager of the kmod"

I upgraded from fc10; there was a residue of four fc10 2.27 kernels in /lib/modules from my fc10->fc11 upgrade; I moved them to a new subdirectory /usr/oldmodules, but the yum update command still produces the same failure message.

What should I be doing at this point?

I recently had a similiar issue except I was able to upgrade to 2.6.29.6-217. However when I rebooted my nvidia graphics card along with my bcm4312 no longer were recognized. I ran a yum update and for some reason the latest versions of kmod-wl & kmod-nvidia were not yet detected so I download/installed the latest versions from http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfr...86_64/repoview and everything works great now.

You can find out for sure if it is installed. Open a terminal window, type:

su -
rpm -qva |grep kmod-wl

Then it should list all versions and if there is an fc10 version you can remove only that specific version with rpm -e (that specific version)

You can always use akmod-nvidia instead of kmod-nvidia, which will compile the driver for any kernel version as needed.

rpmfusion repository is separate from fedora repository so any changes in the kernel are not reflected in rpmfusion right away. I usually give about a week for packagers to make them ready, or just use akmod.

I'm sorry, I have no solution. Just a warning: be happy that you can't install the new Kernel, me and some others are having problems with it!. I'd wait worrying about this when the next kernel comes out!

JEO helped me to resolve the issue. It appeared that my decision to upgrade to FC11 instead of a fresh install left the kmod-wl residue of FC10 in place, which may have confounded the YUM depsolve process.
I removed that residue using the rpm -e process JEO recommended, and my 217 kernel is up and running. I won't say "running fine" because there are still some minor issues around which I can work.

So thanks much for all your suggestions, and particularly thank you, JEO. Very helpful. I have one remaining question - is the fc10 residue from the fc10-fc11 upgrade something that should be filed as a bug? I think so - - - don't quite know how to instruct someone to reproduce it, tho - or exactly where to file the bug report.
