HP DV6000 and F10 graphics
Hello all,
I'm running Fedora 10 on HP DV6000. I noticed a slight lag with the graphics: either when watching videos or moving "wobbly" windows on the desktop. I also noticed that graphics display in wine was horrible (dreadfully slow fro games). This could all be related.
Anyone experience this?
Have any suggestions?

This is what I was able to get:

I have 32-bit(i3/686)
I have not installed any special drivers for the graphics card. I use xine-lib version 1.1.15 for totem.

Yes, that helps. There have been quite a few issues with the Intel drivers since F9. Also, integrated video chipsets are not know as the fastest, since they usually have less VRAM than dedicated cards, or use shared system memory. It might also help to know how much VRAM you have, with the goal of either optimizing, or simply realizing the limitations. One of these two will give the info:
cat -i ram /var/log/Xorg.0.log
cat -i mem /var/log/Xorg.0.log
Also: see if the 3D video acceleration is working:
glxinfo|grep render
Without hardware acceleration, graphical rendering will be much slower. Might be fixable if not working, or at least you know the machine's limits.

OOPS! My bad! Sorry, I was tired - it should have been:
grep -i ram[mem] ...
Unfortunately, the output above missed the target lines.
The good news is 3D acceleration (direct rendering=Yes) is working.
You need 64 MB VRAM minimum for compositing effects like "Wobbly Windows". The more, the better. It appears that you're running Compiz[-Fusion] for those effects? If so, try starting C-F with fusion-icon (install package fusion-icon if necessary) to manage C-F. Also, install package driconf to manage DRI settings for the Intel driver.

I did this after I installed driconf. Since I'm no graphics expert, I kept the default settings for driconf.
Note: I'm using Leigh's compiz fusion, and screenlets. I had already added compiz-fusion to my startup menu under sessions. and I had the original problem before stalling all these packages.

256 MB of VRAM is plenty, so no problem there. Run driconf once as root user to generate a default /etc/drirc file, then after that as any normal user, and you can set/save your personal settings, even on a per-application basis. Play around, see if anything helps. I can't give suggestions, because the available tweaks are specific to the chipset, and I have no Intel video chips. No need to re-start X after changes, but any/all open apps using OpenGL/DRI should be re-started. See what happens....

Also: X11 sees two identical chipsets, but I'm guessing that you have only one. I've seen this several times before, must be a glitch in hardware auto-detection.

Oops! My bad: you have to disable framebuffer compression in xorg.conf (which is where the log file says it's enabled anyway). Here's what man intel says::
Code:
Option "FramebufferCompression" "boolean"
This option controls whether the framebuffer compression feature is enabled. If possible, the front buffer will be allocated in a
tiled format and compressed periodically to save memory bandwidth and power. This option is only available on mobile chipsets.
Default: enabled on supported configurations.
So: edit xorg.conf and turn it off. You must re-start X after such a change.
I'm thinking that the compression/decompression is slowing things down. There are other assorted options listed in man intel and man xorg.conf too.

and where is located? 
Is this a matter of just changing text from "true" to "false" or "1" to "0"?  .
I ran the "man" command but I only got info there.

I have the same series of laptop a dv6700z, however, I got the nVidia GeForce 7150M. I haven't noticed any lag in any video stuff, whether compiz-fusion or using Wine to play games. Though I tend to turn off compiz when I expect to play games for a time.
