fedora 9 problem !

hello everyone. am new to fedora, am very intrested in learning fedora and to get involved with it as much i can. i downloaded 1686 iso live cd and x86_64.iso as well.

i have a mac pro with quad core 2.8 ghz xeon processors. the problem am having is when i dowloaded the x86_64 this is the error i get when i boot from the iso

this kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU.
unable to boot - please use a kernerl appropriate for your CPU.

so i download the i686 iso when i boot the iso everything works fine but i want graphical interface and not just text mode. i tried couple commands like

init 5 to swich to interface but it didnt work. i dont know what to do if someone could please help me out am also looking into downloading i386 ( read that new macs with intel cpus need i386) so i will try that)

thx alot the help i get i will appreciate.

startx - initialize an X session

The startx script is a front end to xinit that provides a somewhat nicer user interface for running
a single session of the X Window System. It is often run with no arguments.

Code:
[Franz-Josef@localhost ~]$ startx
should run a Graphical User Interface.

To automaticaly start the X Window System you can write in your /etc/inittab:

Code:
id:5:initdefault:
More about the X Window System can be found in the User HOWTO.
