Bu-353 Gps

Hi everyone!

I've got USB-GPS BU-353 and cannot install driver for him so I can start using it.
I've found driver for it: driver_for_linux but it's only for RedHat 7/8/9.
Do I have to change the makefile so it load libraries from another places or there is another way how system could see this device?
I'm going to use Viking software.

Here is output of lspci:

i highly doubt that a driver from 2003 to 04 will build on fedora 9
with out some serious rewright for gcc 4.1 , but may build using gcc-compact34 . weather or not it will work???

So you mean I can forget about current USB-GPS?
I'll try to use gcc-compact34, but as I see I really have to modify makefile.

Just plug the thing in and see the messages in system logs and "dmesg". It should work without any additional drivers in current Linux versions: http://www.usglobalsat.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=45

Don't worry about the gcc issue until you hit a roadblock. The makefile will be different but worse - all the kernel data structures will need to be revised. There have been a LOT of changes since then. Look at a different approach.

I *think* that part has a supported pl2303 USB-SERIAL converter, and that's probably all you need. lspci doesn't help (it's not a pci device). You want "lsusb".

So plug the device in and see what messages appear at the end of the "dmesg" command.
http://ml.osdir.com/org.user-groups..../msg00005.html

You *might* need to use this command as root "modprobe pl2303" before plugging the device into a USB port. Then a new serial terminal should appear. See dmesg for the name.

I've typed dmesg and found my GPS module. Thanks a lot, module worked out of the box, I just didn't understand that =)
