Not sure if this is the right place to put this...(audio related issue)

When playing files from my library in Amarok, sometimes if I pause a file to watch a video in firefox, the flash plugin will stop playing audio, and then when I go back to Amarok it will either not make any sound (however it still appears as though it is playing, the visualisation is still running etc.). This is very frustrating, adn sometimes when I start up amarok after logging in it will give me the error message 'Xine unable to play any media files". Anyone had any roblems like this before? Should I re-install xine, or try another audio backend? Any advice would be appreciated, as logging out every time I want to switch audio applications is really time consuming and pointless.
