workaround: installing amazon mp3 downloader with fedora 9

Hi Folks, for those of you who love amazons drm free mp3 store, but are having trouble installing the downloader on F9 due to missing libssl.so.6 and libcrypto.so.6 dependencies, here is a quick and dirty workaround:

1. download the fedora 8 rpm (amazonmp3.rpm) from the amazon site
2. cd to your download dir
3. su -c 'rpm -i --nodeps amazonmp3.rpm' (this tells rpm to ignore dependencies)
4. cd /lib
5. su -c 'ln -s libssl.so.7 libssl.so.6'
6. su -c 'ln -s libcrypto.so.7 libcrypto.so.6'

The last two steps just soft link the .7 version of the libraries that come with F9, to the .6 filenames that amazonmp3 is looking for. You should now be able to download amazon mp3s on your F9 install. Cheers !

I had no luck. After following these steps, the installed Amazon MP3 Downloader would not start. I'm using Fedora 9 64-bit.

I have the 32 bit fedora 9 and these instructions did not work for me either ..fedora 9 has changed since this thread was started although I installed it successfully

Here's how to do it:

First install boost-1.34.1-13.fc9.i386.rpm which is supposed to work for 64 bit as well

http://rpmfind.net//linux/RPM/fedora....fc9.i386.html

Then type

1) su

2) cd /lib

3) ln -s libssl.so.0.9.8g libssl.so.6

4) ln -s libcrypto.so.0.9.8g libcrypto.so.6

5) use terminal to go to the directory were amazonmp3.rpm was saved

6) rpm -i --nodeps amazonmp3.rpm

This set of commands is also valid for Fedora 10 as 2009-01-27.
