I installed the F8 XFCE4-LiveCD spin on my oldest box, and I've been extremely pleased with the outcome. One minor problem has surfaced recently: when I enable the "Window Manager Tweaks=>Compositor", at least one application does not display correctly. The package is 'XnView' (XnView-1.70-1.i386.rpm), and it's a slightly older general-purpose image viewer. I like it because it supports almost any image format imaginable. The RPM package came from XnView's website. However, with desktop compositor enabled, it becomes essentially transparent - the menu bar icons and view field (and so the loaded image file) can't be seen unless viewed overtop of a black background. It's almost as if the colormap is reversed. The application performs fine without the compositor enabled. There are no CLI errors/warnings. The only noted prerequisite for this package is lesstif, which is installed. The only difference that I know of between this OS and my others is the XFCE4-LiveCD spin, and I'm using an ATI mach64 video driver built from DRI source code (which performs quite well otherwise).
Any ideas as to what it is about the XFCE4 WM compositor that might cause this? No such problem noted on other machines with C-F/compositing window manager enabled.
Thanx and Regards,
