Possible compiz-fusion issue or general system issue
I recently installed compiz-fusion and it was working flawlessly. However, after a recent software/kernel update, my linuxbox has just seemed to not work right. I am running Fedora 8. I have been running it for a few months now without any major problems that I could not fix without searching the forums first, however this is the first time I could not find an answer. The first thing that is wrong is that when I do run compiz-fusion, it seems the only setting that works is when it snaps windows to the top menu bar, which I have that option turned off. I have the cube option on, but that does not work. Also, my Add/Remove Programs program does not start, neither does any of my admin options that require my root password. Any advice or help would be great.
On an additional note, I was wondering if there was a way to make compiz-fusion run on startup, I also could not find that anywhere.

1. You might be hit by one or more of the many nasty bugs of the 2.6.24 kernel. You can verify that like this 2. Due to the risks associated with running bleeding edge software, I wouldn't recommend having Compiz starting automatically. Yet, if you feel confident enough in tackling possibly unknown issues which might appear after various updates, you could add it to System-Preferences-Personal-Sessions

That is my kernel. So basically do I just need to wait for an update to fix it?
If it helps, my terminal has started displaying "darko28@new-host" rather than "darko28@local-host." I did try to run compiz-fusion at startup that way but it never worked. However, if you are advising that it is not a good procedure than I will listen to your opinion.

Same problem here with 2.6.24 and Compiz-Fusion
I had the same problem here with Fedora 8, Compiz-Fusion and the 2.6.24 kernel. I have a Dell 530n with the Intel G33 chipset and Intel integrated GMA3100 graphics (sanitized after it came with Vista ). I run the "intel" driver in 1680x1050 resolution. Booting back to the 2.6.23 kernel got me my "Desktop Effects" back.
Looks like another good reason to install the yum-security plugin, which only allows security-related updates. Had I did that and run 'yum update --security' rather than 'yum update', I wouldn't have got the 2.6.24 kernel update.

Ok so basically no one knows how to fix this right now? Cause it's not only the compiz that is giving me problems, I can't access my Network panel to get the internet because my GUI will not run programs that require the root password.

And if the update doesn't do it the 2.6.23 kernel should still be available. At boot time you can select which kernel to use from the grub menu. You can use the old kernel while waiting for issues to be resolved with the new.

Looks like this is fixed in 2.6.24.3-34 which should be pushed to updates any time soon. The impatient (or those wishing to test it) could download and install it from Koji.

I did the update, it did not update my kernel. Also, when I go to boot into any of my other available kernels at boot I still have the same problems.
