i386 Live CD Option - Whereis?

Hi

Visited the "Get Fedora" page looking for a link for live CD iso for my i386 machine but the only live CD options are for the dual core processor "melt the planet" processors. My machine is a humble PIII 700. Therefore, I don't think these i686 options are for me. Does anyone know of a mirror for me to try out Fedora via a Live CD for i386?

Thanks in advance.

Mark

What is a "melt the planet" processor, and better yet, where can I get one?

There is no different "dual core" or SMP architecture type. You either have 32 bit, 64 bit or ppc for those Mac people...You want the i386 or, as it is labeled for the live CDs, the i686. It is the same architecture type.

edit: BTW, before you waste much time, you better check the minimum specs section. Fedora, actually most modern Linux distros, require fairly modern hardware, at least within the last 8 years anyway.

"i686" means anything starting from a Pentium Pro. Your PIII is two generations above that minimum requirement (PPro->PII->PIII). The i686 LiveCD will work if you have enough RAM.

Thank you!!

Checked spec as suggested. All OK. It's runing Debian 4 (Etch) at the moment and runs quite briskly. But want to checkout Fedora RPM repositories as .deb seem to be restrictive on media codecs.

Fedora doesn't allow any non-free media codecs in the distribution: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Multim...891290b486705a

You need to install the codecs from a third-party repository like Livna or freshrpms.
