I'd love to find a PS2->USB adapter so I can hook up my dual Shock controller... However, the problem is that AFAIK no apps yet support the feedback functions of joysticks in Linux, even if support has been present down to the kernel for several years now. SDL is only about to support with 1.3 (AKA SDL 2) on Linux (as in Windows it has been long supported through DirectX' DirectInput, even when used in SDL apps)

Nope, I meant PS2 controllers... PS3 controllers (at least to me) feel of lesser quality than the good ol' dualshocks. I know that the the PS2 controller interface is actually, just like the XBox and GameCube controllers, a modified USB connector, and could be used (any of those) as any other USB gamepad device. However I'm not sure you can get USB adapters for PS2 controllers, the only ones I've seen were homebrew ones... Fragile, to say the least. Now that you mention PS3 controllers, though, I wonder if you can connect them and use them attaching them to a PC, besides of charging the battery. I'm sure many folks are already looking into that.

Hey Thetargos, the Dualshock 3 controllers are due in spring according to Sony. Maybe you'll enjoy those better.

Hmmm... Interesting. I wonder if DualShock 3 controllers will still feature the same "motion sensor" as the Six Axis controller (I'd be surprised if it didn't). Glad to see Sony officially supporting DualShock once again. And Stephanie.Steve, that indeed is what I'm looking for (now only to wait for SDL to catch up!)

Well, there hasn't been much of an interest to have support earlier either, so... SDL supports feedback effects on Windows due to DirectInput, even though SDL is an alternative to DirectX (for portability), it does use the infrastructure in every system, and on Windows that means it can make full use of DirectX, to that effect is an abstraction layer on top of yet another abstraction layer for better portability. Let's not forget that it is about the only hardware abstraction layer for multimedia applications programming available for other Unix and Linux systems. MacOS has its own (mostly derived from QuickTime/Quartz). At any rate, and even though it is late in the game, SDL 1.3 (AKA 2) will feature support for force/vibration feedback on Linux.
